Everyone sweats, it is just a necessary part of life. Believe it our not, sweat does have a purpose. Sweating is like the body's air conditioner; with the brain being the thermostat that controls the air conditioner.
When body temperature goes up the brain signals the sweat glands to make perspiration. The evaporation of sweat on the skins surface is what cools the body. So, sweat should never be eliminated. However, with that said, some people do suffer from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating.)
Excessive sweating at night can be embarrassing and aggravating for sufferers. A number factors can attribute to excessive sweating. It can be a simple genetic condition or menopause; which does not signal underlying disease.
But, it is very important that a person inform their doctor of this problem. It may signal an underlying disease such as: diabetes, leukemia, or infectious disease --that needs attention.
Once the cause of excessive night sweating is determined, there are some natural treatments to reduce sweating:
During the day, drink at least eight glasses of water daily.
Natural antiperspirants can help to reduce sweating. This can be applied to any area that is sweating excessively - hands feet, creases or skin folds, underarms, etc..
Natural powders, like corn starch, can be used to absorb sweat.
Take a cool bath (right before bed.)
Sleep in breathable natural fibers.
Use breathable natural fiber bed linens.
Don't wear socks to bed.
Ensure the bedroom has adequate air circulation.
Have a nighttime relaxation technique that you can do before bed- yoga, meditation, prayer, music therapy, etc.
The above are all natural ways to reduce sweating. For the best results, they should be practiced simultaneously.
